Parañaque Rep. Brian Yamsuan welcomed Education Secretary Sonny Angara’s order to inspect school buildings damaged by the magnitude 7.8 earthquake in Mindanao.
He said the disaster could worsen the country’s classroom shortage, with thousands of aging and deteriorating classrooms already in need of repair or replacement.
Yamsuan emphasized the need to secure legal ownership of public school sites to speed up construction, rehabilitation, and earthquake-retrofitting projects.
He cited his proposed legislation aimed at streamlining the titling and registration of school properties under the Department of Education.
The lawmaker said clear land ownership is essential to addressing the classroom backlog and ensuring safe learning environments.
