The Manila city government has declared a state of calamity in 27 flood-hit barangays to speed up access to calamity funds for relief operations.
Vice Mayor Chi Atienza said the funds may be used for hot meals, medicines, and other essential supplies for affected residents.
City officials attributed the flooding to heavy rainfall and the opening of dams, despite regular drainage clearing operations.
Some flood-prone areas, including España Boulevard, have seen faster water recession.
Other barangays seeking inclusion in the declaration were advised to secure certification from the city’s social welfare department.
