President Marcos has declared Sept. 14, 2026, a special non-working day in BARMM to allow residents to participate in the region’s first regular parliamentary elections.
The declaration aims to give voters enough opportunity to exercise their right to vote.
The elections will proceed as scheduled despite the recent ambush attempt on BARMM Interim Chief Minister Abdulraof “Sammy Gambar” Macacua.
The Palace said the incident will not stop BARMM’s transition toward democratic governance, while security measures have been strengthened.
The parliamentary polls have been postponed four times since their original 2022 schedule.
