Vice President Sara Duterte urged Filipinos to use bicycles, carpool, and adjust travel schedules to reduce energy consumption amid rising oil prices caused by the Middle East conflict.
She called on local governments to halt non-essential activities that rely on oil, monitor prices of basic goods, support local farmers, and educate communities on practical ways to save.
Duterte emphasized that it is the government’s responsibility to protect consumers through regular inspections, strict policies against hoarding, temporary subsidies, price caps, and targeted cash transfers for low-income families.
She also proposed advisories on fuel-efficient food distribution and incentives for public transportation to mitigate the crisis’s impact.
Duterte encouraged communities to support one another and local products, while expecting government action to ensure a fair, stable market and help families overcome these challenges.
