The House of Representatives transmitted the Articles of Impeachment against Vice President Sara Duterte to the Senate on Wednesday evening, with House Secretary General Cheloy Garafil formally delivering the documents at around 7:20 p.m. and Senate Secretary Mark Mendoza receiving them.
The turnover came shortly after a tense incident inside the Senate building involving gunfire by Office of the Sergeant-at-Arms personnel and armed Marines, which briefly delayed the delivery.
House officials said they ensured the accuracy and completeness of the documents, while lawmakers noted there is no fixed constitutional timeline for transmission.
Senator Imee Marcos earlier criticized the delay in forwarding the impeachment articles, but House representatives defended their careful compliance with Supreme Court guidelines.
Legal experts also noted the possibility that the impeachment case could be challenged or dismissed once it reaches the Senate trial stage.
