The Senate Impeachment Court is set to hear oral arguments this week on requests to subpoena Vice President Sara Duterte’s tax records from the Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR), as well as documents from the Anti-Money Laundering Council (AMLC) related to allegations of unexplained wealth and misuse of confidential funds.
The court is also scheduled to hear the testimony of Duterte’s chief of staff, Zuleika Lopez, who was subpoenaed to appear.
Lopez’s testimony is expected to support the fourth article of impeachment involving Duterte’s alleged threats against President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., First Lady Liza Araneta-Marcos and former House Speaker Martin Romualdez.
Meanwhile, Senator-judge Panfilo Lacson said he would oppose opening the BIR records without the President’s written authorization as required by law.
The impeachment proceedings are set to resume this week.
