House Deputy Speaker Janette Garin described Vice President Sara Duterte’s request for the Senate to pay for her defense team’s catering during the impeachment trial as “improper” and “funny.”
Duterte said the request was based on security concerns and asked that food be sourced from the Office of the Vice President’s accredited caterer.
Garin argued that the OVP should cover its own expenses and said such requests are uncommon in court proceedings.
She also said the request could be interpreted as questioning the Senate’s ability to provide safe food.
The Senate is expected to decide on Duterte’s request.
