Thousands of protesters gathered in Manila on Sunday to demand accountability over a multi-billion-dollar flood-control scandal implicating officials, lawmakers, and construction firms.
Demonstrators, some holding crocodile-shaped signs, marched along EDSA and gathered at Luneta Park, highlighting the human toll of recent typhoon-driven floods.
The first arrests, involving eight Department of Public Works and Highways officials, were announced only days ago, while calls grow for higher-ranking officials, including politicians and lawmakers, to be held accountable.
Protesters expressed frustration over systemic corruption and the slow pace of justice, urging President Marcos to act decisively.
More than 17,000 police were deployed for crowd control, ensuring the demonstrations remained largely peaceful.
