Senate President Vicente Sotto III has filed Senate Bill 1443, which aims to provide special privileges and financial relief to pregnant women.
The bill seeks to institutionalize protections for mothers and their unborn children from conception up to birth.
It mandates a 20 percent discount on all pregnancy-related expenses, including check-ups, lab tests, medicines, and supplements.
The legislation also provides a 10-day paid medical leave for pregnant women requiring bed rest due to health complications.
Sotto noted that current PhilHealth benefits are often insufficient, and the bill is intended to alleviate the financial burdens of pregnancy.
