Senate Minority Leader Vicente Sotto III said he was the one who proposed Sherwin Gatchalian as the minority bloc’s candidate for Senate president amid the chamber’s leadership struggle.
Sotto denied claims that he had stayed silent on the issue and said the bloc is still working to secure enough votes to replace Alan Peter Cayetano.
He also rejected allegations by Imee Marcos that secret talks on Charter change and a constituent assembly took place during a dinner meeting.
Senator Panfilo Lacson backed Sotto’s clarification and said the minority bloc’s main goal is to restore the Senate’s credibility.
Lacson also expressed confidence that Gatchalian could preside over Vice President Sara Duterte’s impeachment trial if elected Senate president.
