Sen. Raffy Tulfo has filed a Senate resolution calling for an investigation into the alleged billions of pesos worth of expired, nearly expired, and unutilized medicines and vaccines procured by the Department of Health (DOH) from 2018 to 2024.
The resolution cites Commission on Audit (COA) findings, which reportedly showed recurring wastage of medical supplies due to weaknesses in procurement, inventory, and distribution systems.
Tulfo stressed the need to hold officials accountable for mismanagement, noting that millions of Filipinos continue to struggle with access to essential medicines in public health facilities while supplies are left to expire in warehouses.
COA data cited in the resolution showed billions of pesos in losses over several years, including significant amounts in 2022 and 2023, as well as additional expired and soon-to-expire stocks in 2024.
He urged a Senate inquiry to identify those responsible, impose sanctions, and implement reforms to prevent further wastage of publicly funded medical supplies.
