Sen. Sherwin Gatchalian has urged local government units (LGUs) to strengthen fire prevention measures amid extreme heat conditions affecting the country.
He also called on power distributors to intensify inspections of illegal electrical connections following a series of fire incidents.
Gatchalian issued the appeal after visiting Barangay Sta. Ana in Taguig, which was hit by a fire on May 25, allegedly caused by an illegal “jumper” connection.
He emphasized the need for coordinated action among LGUs, fire authorities, and utilities to ensure regular safety inspections and prevent similar incidents.
The senator also extended aid to affected residents, distributing rice assistance to 684 families.
