The House of Representatives can simultaneously address rising fuel prices and process impeachment complaints against Vice President Sara Duterte, said Bicol Saro party-list Rep. Terry Ridon.
He dismissed Duterte’s claim that Congress was too focused on her impeachment to tackle the oil crisis, noting that lawmakers are advancing a bill to suspend or reduce excise taxes on petroleum products during periods of high global oil prices.
The measure has passed its second reading, was certified as urgent by President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr., and is expected to be approved on its third and final reading this week.
Meanwhile, the House Committee on Justice found the remaining impeachment complaints against Duterte sufficient in form and substance and is awaiting her response, due Monday.
Ridon emphasized that both economic relief and accountability measures are being pursued concurrently, demonstrating Congress’s ability to manage multiple priorities.
