Starting November 11, rice in Metro Manila will be sold at P45 per kilogram following an agreement between the Department of Agriculture (DA) and market leaders. The arrangement aims to limit sellers’ profit margins to P3 to P5 per kilo, setting a new standard for regular and well-milled rice. DA Spokesperson Arnel de Mesa expressed hope that this price cap becomes the standard in NCR. Rice sellers, while cautious, expressed willingness to comply, aiming to balance profits with other goods. The DA will monitor the agreement’s implementation, noting that recent typhoons could impact future prices in other regions.
