The Quezon City government has partnered with San Miguel Corporation (SMC) for large-scale river cleanup and rehabilitation projects, focusing on the San Juan and Tullahan Rivers and other key waterways.
The initiative expands SMC’s Better Rivers PH program through a memorandum of agreement signed by Mayor Joy Belmonte and SMC officials on August 26.
Under the deal, SMC will conduct dredging and widening operations, deploy equipment, and improve systems for debris and silt removal to help restore natural water flow.
The project aims to increase the rainwater capacity of rivers, reduce flooding in vulnerable areas, and support long-term environmental resilience.
SMC also pledged to assist the city in exploring advanced waste management technologies aligned with Quezon City’s goals for climate adaptation and sustainable urban development.
