Quezon City marked World Obesity Day on March 4 with the support of healthcare company Novo Nordisk and the Royal Danish Embassy, highlighting the city as a model in the global Cities for Better Health program.
A health education totem was installed at Quezon Memorial Circle to provide guidance on BMI, waist measurements, risk factors, and healthy behaviors, alongside metered activity stations to promote physical activity.
The city also held a community walk, public engagement activities, and its first Obesity Summit to raise awareness of obesity as a chronic disease.
Mayor Joy Belmonte emphasized the city’s preventive health approach, while Novo Nordisk and Danish officials highlighted the importance of local-global collaboration for healthier communities.
Additional initiatives in Quezon City include calorie labeling, workplace wellness programs, and expanded physical activity campaigns.
