The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) received 13 generator sets from the Japanese government to enhance its maritime operations and disaster response capabilities.
The equipment was handed over during a ceremony at the Coast Guard National Headquarters in Manila on March 6, with Japanese Embassy Minister Naobumi Yokota representing Japan and Rear Adm. Rommel Supangan representing the PCG.
The generators will support daily port operations and serve as backup power during emergencies, especially in remote areas with limited electricity.
Provided under the Japan Grant Aid Program, the donation reflects ongoing maritime cooperation between Manila and Tokyo, which has also funded vessels, surveillance systems, and training programs.
PCG officials said the generators have already been distributed across several districts to improve operational readiness and disaster response.
