President Marcos announced the cancellation of fugitive former lawmaker Zaldy Co’s passport to prevent him from evading authorities, as Co faces an arrest warrant from the Sandiganbayan over a questionable flood control project in Oriental Mindoro.
The Department of Foreign Affairs and the Philippine National Police have been instructed to coordinate with embassies worldwide to track Co, who is believed to be in Portugal, a country without an extradition treaty with the Philippines.
At least 15 other individuals from the DPWH and construction firm Sunwest Corp. have also been charged with graft and malversation in connection with the project.
Contractor Sarah Discaya has surrendered to authorities, while other implicated officials continue to face investigations to recover public funds.
Meanwhile, former senator Ramon Revilla Jr., also named in a related case, has submitted counter-affidavits denying involvement, as authorities continue to gather evidence against all respondents.
