President Marcos has ordered the immediate distribution of a P5,000 fuel subsidy for jeepney and tricycle drivers affected by rising oil prices amid Middle East tensions.
Executive Secretary Ralph Recto said the program will start next week in Metro Manila, with the Department of Social Welfare and Development and the Department of Transportation leading the rollout.
Metro Manila mayors were convened to coordinate distribution and ensure assistance reaches all eligible drivers quickly.
The program will later expand to other regions as part of the government’s effort to protect livelihoods from fuel price spikes.
Marcos also signaled support for an emergency powers bill and is exploring alternative oil suppliers to stabilize the country’s fuel supply.
