The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) is shifting to a ₱10-per-liter fuel subsidy after its budget for the service contracting program was exhausted after five weeks.
Officials said the move aims to cover more public utility vehicles, including jeepneys and UV Express units, amid limited funding of ₱800 million for 2025.
Around 141,724 vehicles are eligible for the subsidy across more than 4,000 participating gasoline stations nationwide.
The Department of Transportation has requested an additional ₱5 billion budget, while some local government units have been urged to implement their own service contracting programs.
Transport groups, however, said the fuel subsidy remains insufficient to offset fuel taxes.
