MINDANAO QUAKE DAMAGE PROMPTS DEPED TO REQUEST P245.8M FOR SCHOOL REPAIRS

The Department of Education (DepEd) has estimated an initial P245.8 million requirement for cleanup operations, debris removal, and repair work in schools affected by the recent Mindanao earthquake.

Based on Situation Report No. 7, about P215.698 million is allocated for classroom repairs, while P30.121 million is set aside for the cleanup and clearing of debris across affected school sites.

DepEd said the repair estimate currently covers only minor damages and is expected to increase once assessments of heavily and totally damaged structures are completed.

A total of 1,022 public schools across 19 provinces were affected, with 4,622 classrooms reporting varying levels of damage, while class suspensions and resumptions continue depending on safety clearance.

Authorities, including DepEd and DPWH, are conducting ongoing inspections and validation to ensure school safety and expedite rehabilitation and the resumption of classes.
