Vice President Sara Duterte visited families affected by the magnitude 7.8 earthquake that struck parts of Mindanao on June 8, offering condolences to bereaved relatives and checking on injured victims confined in hospitals in Sarangani and General Santos City.
She met the family of spouses Jimmy and Rose Batino of Barangay Tuyan, Malapatan, who died after being swept into the water when ground fissures reportedly opened near the shoreline during the tremor.
Duterte conveyed sympathy on behalf of the Office of the Vice President (OVP) and assured continued assistance to affected communities.
She also highlighted the OVP’s disaster response efforts, including the deployment of Kalusugan Food Trucks, distribution of food packs, and provision of relief goods to displaced families and responders.
The Vice President stressed the importance of disaster preparedness, urging communities to learn proper earthquake response measures to reduce panic and improve safety during emergencies.
