Mayor Joy Belmonte assured residents displaced by the recent fire along NIA Road in Barangay Pinyahan that the city government is moving forward with plans to build vertical housing for affected families.
She said the local government has coordinated with national agencies, including Housing Secretary Jose Ramon ‘Ping’ Aliling and National Housing Authority General Manager Joeben Tai, to resolve earlier issues and identify funding sources.
Belmonte explained that escrow funds from the city’s balanced housing program—mandated by law to allocate 20 percent of development projects for socialized housing—will be used to finance the project.
She noted that an ordinance passed by the Quezon City Government ensures these funds remain within the city, allowing them to grow to billions of pesos.
The mayor emphasized that affected residents will not be relocated elsewhere and will instead be provided with safe, permanent, and decent housing in the same community.
