Manila Mayor Francisco “Isko Moreno” Domagoso urged young Filipinos to ground political discussions on facts, evidence, and sound ideas rather than personal attacks amid what he described as increasingly polarized public discourse.
Speaking at the “Youth Peace Summit 2026: Voice of the Youth” at the Polytechnic University of the Philippines, he emphasized the importance of critical thinking, respectful debate, and responsible communication in civic engagement.
Domagoso noted that many arguments today are judged based on personalities instead of the strength of evidence or merit of ideas.
He also highlighted the value of oratorical contests in developing logical reasoning and effective expression, while reminding the youth that freedom of speech comes with responsibility and should not be used to harm others.
He encouraged students to remain firm in their principles while respecting differing views, and congratulated the finalists for representing young Filipinos in public speaking and advocacy.
