The death toll from the magnitude 7.8 earthquake that struck parts of Mindanao has climbed to 37, with 479 people injured and four still missing, according to the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC).
Authorities reported that more than 88,000 people have been affected, with thousands displaced and staying in evacuation centers across Soccsksargen, Davao Region, BARMM, and Zamboanga Peninsula.
The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology recorded over 1,300 aftershocks, with at least 35 felt and magnitudes ranging up to 6.4. Search and rescue, relief distribution, and infrastructure assessments continue as government agencies and the military mobilize personnel and resources across affected areas.
Damage to infrastructure has reached at least P15 million, including roads, bridges, a seaport, and an airport, while nearly 200 classrooms were destroyed and hundreds more damaged.
