President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. inspected the ongoing rehabilitation of the Maharlika Highway in Samar on June 5, saying the project will improve connectivity, lower transport costs, and boost economic opportunities nationwide.
He visited the roadworks in Pinabacdao and emphasized the need to ensure high-quality construction, noting long-standing issues such as potholes along the highway.
Marcos said the Maharlika Highway is more than just a road, as it connects regions from Ilocos to Zamboanga and links the country’s islands.
The Presidential Communications Office said the project is expected to significantly cut travel time between Tacloban City and Catbalogan City from three hours to about one hour and 45 minutes once completed.
The rehabilitation is slated for completion in August.
