Japanese disaster response experts have approved the fire-control measures being implemented at the old Navotas City Landfill after an on-site inspection conducted on April 24.
The seven-member Japan Disaster Relief (JDR) Expert Team, deployed by Japan International Cooperation Agency, assessed containment efforts and provided technical support to local responders.
They found that current methods, such as soil covering, compaction, and cooling, are effectively reducing underground fire activity.
The team also conducted a demonstration to improve the use of heavy equipment, with additional bulldozers and operators expected to reinforce ongoing operations.
The Navotas City government expressed gratitude to the Japanese and national partners as efforts continue to fully extinguish the landfill fire.
