Shots were fired on the second floor of the Senate building, causing panic as authorities searched for Sen. Ronald “Bato” dela Rosa, but no one was reported hurt in the incident.
President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. clarified that all uniformed personnel inside the Senate were part of its own security and denied involvement of outside government forces, urging the public to stay calm.
The situation unfolded amid legal tensions over dela Rosa’s possible arrest linked to an International Criminal Court warrant after the Supreme Court declined to issue a temporary restraining order.
Senate officials, including Senate President Alan Peter Cayetano, condemned the incident and claimed they were under threat while holding a caucus during the gunfire.
Authorities, including the NBI and PNP, denied responsibility for the shooting and said investigations are ongoing while maintaining coordination with Senate security.
