The Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT), Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA), and the Pasig City government on Thursday activated free Wi-Fi access in Pasig River Ferry Service (PRFS) stations and ferryboats to improve digital connectivity for commuters.
Pasig City Mayor Vico Sotto, MMDA Chairman Don Artes, DICT Secretary Henry Aguda, and Congressman Roman Romulo led the ceremonial launch at the San Joaquin Ferry Station in Pasig City.
Under the Free Public Internet Access Program, 12 ferry stations and three ferryboats now offer 24/7 internet access, with connection speeds reaching up to 40-60 Mbps during low usage and 10-20 Mbps during peak hours.
The DICT said the initiative supports President Bongbong Marcos’ directive to provide digitally connected travel while complementing efforts to revive the Pasig River through the “Pasig Bigyang Buhay Muli” program.
Officials said the free Wi-Fi service is expected to enhance commuter convenience, encourage more people to use the ferry system, and help ease traffic congestion in Metro Manila.
