Vice President Sara Duterte is in Melbourne, Australia, on a personal trip and plans to join a “Free Duterte Now” rally supporting her detained father, former President Rodrigo Duterte.
However, Filipino rights defenders in Australia have expressed concern, calling her visit a threat to social harmony and urging Australian authorities to block her entry, though no action was taken.
The rights groups accuse Duterte and Senator Imee Marcos of authoritarianism and human rights abuses, warning that their presence could destabilize the Filipino-Australian community.
The rally is part of broader efforts by Duterte’s supporters abroad to campaign for her father’s release from the International Criminal Court (ICC).
Meanwhile, Sara Duterte faces impeachment proceedings in the Philippines and has been ordered to respond to criminal charges related to alleged misuse of funds.
