Ferdinand Marcos Jr. announced an increase in maternity coverage under the Philippine Health Insurance Corporation starting April 30, raising benefits for normal deliveries from ₱9,750 to ₱29,000 and for cesarean sections from ₱37,000 to up to ₱62,000.
He said the move aims to ease the high cost of childbirth and ensure mothers can access proper medical care without financial strain.
Marcos also noted that many women still give birth without doctors due to expenses, which the government seeks to address.
Prenatal care coverage will also expand from four to eight check-ups, including vaccines and laboratory tests, along with three postnatal visits after delivery.
The President emphasized that the goal is to ensure safe childbirth and prevent lives from being put at risk due to a lack of funds.
