The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has around 5,700 flood mitigation projects ongoing, with completion targeted between 2025 and 2026, according to Secretary Manuel Bonoan.
Since June 2022, nearly 9,856 flood control projects have already been finished to address flooding concerns.
These projects range from minor works to large-scale efforts focusing on the country’s 18 major river basins.
Amid heavy monsoon rains from Tropical Storms Dante and Emong, causing widespread flooding, President Marcos Jr. has also urged the collection of floodwater for irrigation during the dry season.
Despite criticism over persistent flooding and a P1 trillion budget for 2025, Bonoan assured that the DPWH is using funds efficiently and reviewing technical aspects to address climate change impacts.
