The Commission on Elections (Comelec) has warned the public against fraudulent emails pretending to come from the poll body and requesting personal or sensitive information.
In an advisory issued Friday, Comelec specifically flagged emails from the address “comelec.infoupdate@protonmail.com” and a person falsely claiming to be a Comelec staff member.
The agency clarified that it has no “Stakeholder Relations Division” and that the individual identified as Atty. Maria Carmela B. Gonzales is not connected with the commission.
Comelec reminded the public that official emails only use the “@comelec.gov.ph” domain and urged recipients not to click suspicious links that may lead to phishing or data theft.
The poll body advised the public to verify communications through the official contact details listed on its website or by visiting Comelec offices directly.
