Lanao del Sur Rep. Zia Alonto Adiong said prosecution lawyer Lorna Kapunan is being singled out by Duterte allies because of her effectiveness in Vice President Sara Duterte’s impeachment trial.
He said Kapunan’s direct examination of witnesses has strengthened the case against the vice president, particularly over alleged misuse of confidential funds.
Adiong dismissed personal attacks against Kapunan as unhelpful and said they do not address the allegations against Duterte.
Davao City Rep. Paolo Duterte had called Kapunan a “marites” and accused her of using the Ateneo de Zamboanga shooting to promote an anti-Duterte narrative.
Kapunan had linked the incident to concerns about a culture of violence and cited previous remarks by the vice president.
