Bulacan was placed under a state of calamity Thursday due to widespread flooding and damage caused by the enhanced southwest monsoon or “habagat” and tropical cyclones Luis and Maymay.
The declaration aims to speed up relief, medical assistance, rehabilitation and recovery efforts for affected residents.
As of Aug. 19, 23,334 people from 6,980 families were affected, with 7,263 individuals staying in evacuation centers.
Flooding was reported in 11 of the province’s 24 cities and municipalities, with water levels reaching up to three feet.
Gov. Daniel Fernando urged residents to remain vigilant and follow official weather and disaster advisories.
