Nearly 200 swimmers from Indonesia, Singapore, Thailand, Vietnam and the Philippines will compete in the 4th Southeast Asia Open Water Championships in Boracay.
The three-day event, presented by the Philippine Sports Commission, will begin Friday at Boracay Newcoast.
Philippine Aquatics Inc. said extensive safety measures have been prepared with support from local governments, the Philippine Coast Guard, Philippine National Police and trained lifeguards.
PSC Chairman Patrick “Pato” Gregorio backed the event as part of the government’s push to promote sports tourism.
Organizers hope the competition will showcase Filipino hospitality and the beauty of Boracay to participating athletes.
