Stakeholders have formally established the United Ube PH Association Inc. to strengthen representation, policy direction and market development for the Philippine ube industry.
The federation brings together farmers, cooperatives, processors, traders, exporters, researchers, government agencies and other industry players to build a stronger national ube sector.
Agriculture Secretary Francis Tiu Laurel Jr. said the government aims to make Philippine ube a major export product while ensuring farmers receive a larger share of its value.
The group is developing partnerships with local and international buyers, including exploratory talks with Philippine and German business chambers, while working with the Department of Agriculture on a bilateral cooperation agreement.
The government is also considering a P300-million allocation next year to increase ube production and strengthen industry support.
