The House of Representatives approved House Bill 7808, which would require all college students to study the Philippines’ history during World War II as part of their higher education curriculum.
The bill passed third and final reading with 250 votes in favor.
Under the measure, World War II history must make up at least 50 percent of the mandatory Philippine History subject in all higher education courses.
House Majority Leader Ferdinand Alexander “Sandro” Marcos, a co-author of the bill, said it ensures the nation’s history is taught with depth and seriousness.
The Commission on Higher Education, in coordination with the Philippine Veterans Affairs Office and Department of National Defense, will oversee the program’s implementation.
