The Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) has urged restraint and an immediate halt to hostilities in the Middle East following US and Israeli strikes on Iran and Iran’s retaliatory attacks across the region.
ASEAN foreign ministers called on all countries to respect international law, avoid further escalation, and resolve disputes through diplomacy while protecting civilians and infrastructure.
In response to the conflict, 1,189 overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) have requested repatriation, with temporary accommodations, land transport, and domestic flights being arranged by the government.
The Philippines is preparing contingency measures for a potential full-scale war, including the mass evacuation of over one million OFWs, though logistics could allow repatriation of about 5,000 per day.
Security has been heightened at embassies in Manila, and overseas voter registration in Israel and Iran has been suspended for safety reasons.
