Officials in Bulacan have alerted residents in one city and 10 municipalities of possible river surges following the Ipo Dam’s water level surpassing its spilling threshold, causing it to discharge water.
The release began Saturday at 3 p.m. after heavy rains from Severe Tropical Storm Crising and the southwest monsoon caused the dam’s water level to reach 101.56 meters, above the 101-meter spill level.
The Bulacan Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office issued warnings to communities, including Baliwag, Norzagaray, Angat, and others, urging vigilance and safety measures.
Baliwag Mayor Sonia Estrella prohibited swimming in local rivers and directed village officials to enforce river watches.
Meanwhile, Angat Dam’s level also rose but remains well below critical high water levels, though high tides could contribute to flooding risks.
