ABALOS SEEKS CRIMINAL CHARGES OVER SUBSTANDARD BULACAN PROJECTS

Cabinet Secretary Benhur Abalos called for the imprisonment of those responsible for substandard flood control projects in Bulacan after inspecting damaged seawalls in Paombong.

Abalos said the failed structures left communities vulnerable to severe coastal flooding and demanded transparency and accountability.

The DPWH identified several flood control projects in the area, including structures built by blacklisted contractors and one project that remains unfinished.

Public Works Secretary Vince Dizon said contractors may be required to repair damaged structures under their warranties, while stronger seawalls and hexapods will be installed in vulnerable areas.

The government also plans long-term solutions, including a Pampanga River Basin master plan and the proposed Manila Bay Coastal Defense Dike.
