The Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) has approved regulatory relief measures to help borrowers affected by the ongoing fuel crisis linked to Middle East tensions.
These include temporary grace periods of up to six months for loan payments and up to one year for agricultural loan deferments, subject to bank assessment.
Loans of affected borrowers may also be excluded from past due and non-performing classifications for up to a year, with financial institutions required to apply the measures prudently.
The BSP also urged banks to suspend certain fees on digital transactions to ease public access to financial services during the emergency.
The measures come as rising global oil prices drive inflation and increase the cost of basic goods in the Philippines.
