Bohol Governor Erico Aristotle Aumentado has urged the municipal government of Carmen to postpone its planned increase of entrance fees at the Chocolate Hills Complex following complaints from tourists and locals.
He emphasized that the Chocolate Hills are a national treasure and a global tourism icon, urging for dialogue to find alternative revenue sources without deterring visitors.
The proposed fee hike, set to take effect on October 1, 2025, would charge non-Bohol visitors P150, while residents would pay P75, with discounted rates for children.
Carmen Mayor Conchita Toribio-Delos Reyes defended the increase, saying it will fund rehabilitation and improve services for tourists.
The Chocolate Hills, declared a national geological monument in 1988, remain Bohol’s most famous natural attraction and a key draw for visitors.
