The Bureau of Customs (BOC) pledged to fast-track the release of container vans and balikbayan boxes at the Manila International Container Port following inspections led by Commissioner Ariel Nepomuceno.
The agency suspended the privileges of 11 deconsolidators who abandoned boxes, barring them from future transactions and holding them accountable, while emphasizing that investigations with the NBI and Department of Migrant Workers will continue, and those responsible will be prosecuted.
As of yesterday, 66 containers had been released, delivering at least 8,020 balikbayan boxes, with 54,000 to 120,000 still pending.
Nepomuceno urged overseas Filipino workers to carefully choose freight forwarders and avoid those offering unrealistically low fees.
The BOC reiterated its commitment to ensuring the timely and safe delivery of all abandoned balikbayan boxes to their rightful recipients.
