REMOTE VOTING TREND FAVORS BATO AND OTHER CHARGED CANDIDATES, TULFO SAYS

Minority bloc senators have raised concerns over the majority’s move to fast-track a proposal allowing senators to attend and vote in sessions via teleconferencing, saying it may be intended to accommodate lawmakers facing possible arrest.

Sen. Erwin Tulfo said the push appears aimed at benefiting Sen. Ronald “Bato” dela Rosa and others under legal scrutiny, prompting the minority to walk out of the plenary session on Tuesday evening.

The minority bloc later accused the majority of “railroading” the amendment, arguing that proper procedures were not followed, including the absence of a constituted Committee on Rules.

Sen. Win Gatchalian echoed concerns over the lack of due process, while Sen. Risa Hontiveros said there were also substantive issues with prioritizing the proposal over pressing national concerns.

Tulfo later apologized for the walkout, saying it was done in protest of what they believed was an irregular and predetermined outcome of the vote.
