A month after the fire at the Navotas Sanitary Landfill, the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) reported on May 10 that all monitored areas in Metro Manila have recorded “good” air quality levels for PM2.5.
The Air Quality Index (AQI) across the metropolis remained within the 0–50 range, which is classified as posing minimal or no health risk to the public.
Valenzuela posted the highest AQI at 46, followed by Malabon at 44, while other areas such as Taguig, Pasay, and Parañaque recorded much lower readings.
The DENR noted that this marks a significant improvement compared to the days after the April 10 landfill fire, when several areas experienced “unhealthy” air quality levels.
The agency continues to coordinate with authorities, including the Office of the Solicitor General, as it reviews possible legal actions related to the landfill incident.
