The Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) aims to have 49 low-cost water refilling stations operating nationwide by the end of the year to improve access to safe and affordable drinking water.
Six stations are already operational, while 18 more are being installed in various provinces.
Operated by local water districts, the facilities sell purified water at about half the prevailing market price.
The stations use energy-efficient systems that reduce operating costs while maintaining water quality standards.
DENR said the program supports water security efforts and prioritizes communities where safe drinking water remains costly or unreliable.
