Cavite Rep. Jolo Revilla welcomed the approved P85 daily minimum wage increase in Metro Manila, calling it a long-overdue measure that will help improve workers’ purchasing power.
However, he urged the government to expand similar wage adjustments to regions outside NCR, noting that nearby areas like Calabarzon also face inflation pressures but receive lower pay.
Revilla said the House committee on labor and employment will continue deliberations on proposed legislated wage hike bills even during the Congress recess.
The wage increase, announced by the NCR Wage Board, is expected to benefit about 1.1 million workers and will be implemented in two tranches.
Meanwhile, labor groups criticized the staggered rollout and said the increase remains insufficient to offset rising living costs.
