Taal Volcano’s sulfur dioxide emissions dropped sharply, but it continues to show elevated seismic activity, according to Phivolcs on Sunday, Aug. 16.
The volcano released 107 metric tons of sulfur dioxide in 24 hours, down from the 422-metric-ton daily average recorded from Aug. 5 to 14.
Phivolcs also detected 67 volcanic earthquakes and one 10-minute volcanic tremor episode.
No hot fluid upwelling or volcanic smog was observed at Taal.
Despite the lower emissions, Taal remains under Alert Level 1 as Phivolcs warned that it is still in an abnormal state and an eruption cannot be ruled out.
