The Quezon City government has introduced three new road safety policies aimed at reducing traffic-related injuries and deaths in the city.
Mayor Joy Belmonte said the measures are necessary as Quezon City continues to record the highest number of road crash incidents in Metro Manila.
The new policies include the implementing rules for the city’s Comprehensive Road Safety Code, a safe school zone ordinance, and an executive order creating a road safety working group.
The safe school zone ordinance mandates lower speed limits, better pedestrian facilities, and improved traffic management around schools. At the same time, the working group will oversee the city’s road safety action plans and programs.
City officials said the initiative forms part of Quezon City’s partnership with the global Partnership for Healthy Cities network.
